Our neurosurgeons work in collaboration with FisioSpine's osteopaths and physiotherapists, to ensure that each patient is treated from a multidisciplinary, innovative and totally personalized approach in order to achieve an effective recovery.

How do we work at FisioSpine?

When the patient comes to our center, we begin with a personalized assessment of their physical condition, which includes an examination of the spine and a therapy session. We recommend that the patient come to this visit with a copy of their most recent diagnostic tests, because tests such as X-rays, MRIs or ultrasounds can provide relevant information for determining the appropriate treatment.

If, based on the outcome of this assessment, we determine that the patient is not suffering from a pathological condition, we will recommend physical therapy carried out under the guidance of our professionals, with postural exercises like these and others, to care for your spine. If, on the other hand, there is evidence of a pathology, our therapists will make a recommendation in conjunction with the medical experts of Instituto Clavel for the most appropriate medical treatment to solve your problem.

What treatments do we offer?

Once the evaluation has been carried out, if it is determined that the patient is suffering from a pathology, surgery may, or may not, be the recommended course of action. Depending on whether or not surgery is recommended, the specific rehabilitation plan for your spine will be different.

For non-surgical patients

When it is determined that the patient does not need surgery, the treatment consists of a combination of specific passive and active therapies designed to achieve your recovery

Passive therapies are carried out by our physiotherapists specialized in manual therapy, who have extensive knowledge of the human body needed to effectively treat spinal problems. This passive or manual therapy is a set of methods that act on muscle, bone and nerve tissue to promote recovery from any biomechanical dysfunction, helping to normalize, release and/or facilitate mobility. The therapy includes various techniques, among which are a myofascial technique to restore dysfunctions in muscle tissue, a neural technique to release the entrapment of a nerve from between structures, and a visceral massage technique to treat conditions related to the gastro-intestinal tract.

At FisioSpine we also use radiofrequency, as it is very effective in treating scars and facilitates the regeneration process. Radiofrequency may not be appropriate at a certain phase of rehabilitation, or for all patients; however it is a complementary therapy that we can apply if considered necessary.

In the case of active therapies, the patient must actively collaborate in performing various therapeutic exercises prescribed by the FisioSpine team to improve posture, and relax and tone the back muscles. The goal is for the patient himself to strengthen his spine through the activation of his muscle groups, ligaments and joints.

Once recovery is achieved, we recommend preventive maintenance activities that can be carried out individually or in groups.

Treatment for patients of surgery

If the patient needs to undergo surgery, the physiotherapy will be divided into various phases.

1. Before the operation

In many cases, it helps to prepare the structures of the body that may be affected during the operation by strengthening exercises. This will reduce postoperative pain and facilitate a better recovery. In these cases, we recommend a specific plan to the patient, to prepare the muscles, fascia, ligaments and nerves. In addition, we also offer you guidance in improving your habits: postural reeducation, exercise, weight loss, etc.

2. After the operation

After the surgery, we determine the most appropriate rehabilitation program in each case, according to the specific patient and the specific surgery. We make this assessment jointly with the surgeon of Instituto Clavel who has performed the operation. This collaborative approach allows us to determine the most effective treatment for each case, taking into account key aspects such as age, type of injury, type of surgery, and the patient’s physical condition following the surgery.

3. Prevention of relapse

After the patient has recovered, FisioSpine specialists continue to work with the patient, with specific advice to help the patient to return to his life as it was before the injury, and to prevent a relapse. Working on postural hygiene and learning preventive and maintenance strategies that can be comfortably incorporated in your daily life, is key to preventing new injuries.

The maintenance activities, muscle strengthening and postural exercise that we recommend can be carried out both at our center and at home.

Our facilities

At our center in Barcelona, we have more than 500 m2, divided into two areas. In one area, we have 6 rooms equipped for application of individual passive therapies, carried out by our physiotherapists who are specialized in passive therapies for all kinds of spinal problems.

In addition, we have two large rooms dedicated to active therapeutic exercises. These exercises are adapted to different levels. The initial level is indicated for post-surgical patients or those with injuries that affect basic mobility. At the second level, we work on strength, balance and posture in order to recover the health and well-being of the back. Finally, in the third level of therapeutic exercises, the patient works on muscle strength by controlling the body, focusing on postural hygiene, an important step for preventing any future pain or complications.

Both the rooms for passive therapy, and the rooms for active therapy are set-up with everything needed to carry out the activities.
