Training Grants in Spine Surgery: specialize at the Instituto Clavel

Once again the Fundación Clavel has opened its call for applications for training grants in spine surgery at the Instituto Clavel, the leading center for this type of interventions worldwide. If you are a doctor and would like to train in this specialty, here you will find all you need to know.

Since June 15, 2020 all physicians who have completed their medical degree or neurological surgery or trauma specialties, who are fluent in Spanish or English and are interested in spine surgery are eligible to apply for the Fundación Clavel grants for 2021.

This program is one of the initiatives of the foundation, that aims to help those who need it most, on the one hand, through medical missions to developing countries and, on the other hand, sharing knowledge. For the latter, every year we offer training grants at our clinic, Instituto Clavel, where we have a team of neurosurgeons with more than 20 years of experience in spine surgery

In this way, the purpose of the grants is to train specialists from all over the world in the field of spinal surgery, in order to improve their professional development and, as a result, the quality of life of patients in their countries of origin. During their stay, the fellows will gain experience in innovative techniques, such as ADR using an anterior approach or a lateral approach among others, hand in hand with doctors who are worldwide benchmark in this type of surgery.

A project that would not be possible without the collaboration of Medtronic, a world leader in medical devices.

How many grants do we offer?

So far, the number of grants awarded each year was four. We are glad to announce that nine grants will be available for 2021: Six at the Instituto Clavel of the Hospital Quironsalud in Barcelona and three at the Instituto Clavel of the Hospital San Francisco de Asís in Madrid.

What exactly does this grant entail?

The grant is for two months in which the fellows will shadow the neurosurgeons and observe how they work attending procedures and surgeries, as well as attending patients. During this period, a monthly allowance of EUR 1,200 gross will be awarded to each grant holder.
