At Instituto Clavel, we are committed to innovation and the latest developments in treatment techniques, and we are pleased to share that we now offer our patients Functional Magnetic Stimulation (FMS) for rehabilitation and functional recovery. This is a non-invasive, painless technology that triggers muscle contractions and acts on the peripheral nervous system.
What is FMS?
By means of high-intensity pulsed magnetic fields, FMS is able to pass through the body's tissues without the need for direct contact with the skin. It stimulates deep, effective, muscle contractions to help strengthen muscles, reduce pain, and improve neuromuscular function.
It is a scientifically proven, safe, painless treatment.
How does it differ from conventional stimulation techniques?
Unlike traditional electrostimulation, FMS:
- Does not require electrodes or direct contact with the skin.
- Patients find it more comfortable and easier to bear.
- Does not stimulate superficial pain receptors.
- Penetrates deeper, reaching muscles and structures that are difficult to activate with other techniques.
- Can even be applied through clothing
These features make it possible to work deep muscle groups more effectively while being more comfortable for the patient.
FMS for musculoskeletal and spinal rehabilitation
FMS is especially useful for patients with:
- Neck pain or lower back pain.
- Herniated discs.
- Muscle weakness associated with pain or reduced joint mobility.
- Recovery after spine surgery.
- Processes of rehabilitation and functional recovery.
Through deep-muscle stimulation, it helps with key aspects of spinal rehabilitation: recovering strength, stability, and motor control.
FMS and pelvic floor treatment
FMS technology also offers a non-invasive way to treat various pelvic floor issues. Using a special chair with built-in FMS technology, it is possible to stimulate automatic contractions of the pelvic floor muscles without the need for any probes or electrodes.
It can be an effective treatment option for cases of:
- Urinary incontinence, including stress incontinence, urgency incontinence, or mixed incontinence.
- Intestinal incontinence.
- Postpartum recovery.
- Pelvic floor weakness.
- Recovery after pelvic surgery.
- Incontinence after prostatectomy.
The treatment is painless and comfortable, and is performed with the patient fully clothed.
